Meet the tree
Late Tarocco belongs to the Tarocco group of blood oranges associated with eastern Sicily. The word ‘late’ describes its ripening behaviour; it does not on its own identify a particular registered clone.
The collection document places its indicative season in March and April, extending the experience of winter citrus towards spring. Local weather and the precise selection can shift these dates.

The fruit is medium to large, with juicy flesh and an orange rind that may develop reddish tones. Internal pigmentation varies and cannot always be predicted from the outside.
Anthocyanins give blood oranges their characteristic red. Research shows that cold influences their accumulation, helping explain the importance of climate to the appearance of the fruit.
The balance of sweetness and acidity makes Tarocco interesting as fresh fruit, juice and an ingredient in cooking. The tree in the villa is presented as part of a botanical collection, without implying a protected-origin certification for its harvest.
